1.0 Introduction
Why is it that middle-aged geezer want
to date 20 year old lady? There
are many stereotypes and misconceptions about older men and younger women
relationships. In this case, old men are around 50 years old while young women
are in the range of 20 to 35 years old. A lot of people assume that the old man
is looking for a "trophy wife" even though there
are many attractive 50 yearold women who would make great mates. Nowadays, this
type of relationship is not weird anymore. It is a usual thing to hear about.
Although some of these relationships are doomed from the start but there are
many that have children and have happy relationships. Lindsay (2012) mentioned
that Pakistani old men in Kuwait said the relationship between old men and
young women is completely normal plus the older men look at women more than the
younger men do in Kuwait. As we can see, this desire is absolutely normal. Old
men think it is a miracle if they could get one of young women at their age. The
paper would like to observe why old men preferred to marry young women and the
effects of marrying them.
2.0 Reasons why old men
preferred to marry young women:
2.1 Young women can produce more children.
Firstly, old
men preferred to marry young women because young women are capable of producing
more children. According to Highfield (2007), men preferred young women due to
their high fertility. Old men want to have children may be because they do not
have any yet or their wives are not fertile enough to produce more children.
This is because women's fertility peaks in the early 20’s, and drops
considerably after age 35. American Society of
Reproductive Medicine (n.d., as cited in Gurevich, 2011) mentioned that the infertility rate of women between
ages 30 and 34 is 15% while women between 35 and 39 year old are much higher. The
meaning is that as the women’s age increasing, their infertility rate is also
increasing. So, it is more difficult for them to get pregnant as their age
becomes the factor.
Furthermore,
young women can produce more children because they have a long way before they
reach menopause. Old women that had been menopause could not get pregnant. Some
old women, in this case, ages 45 and above are advisable not to get pregnant
because it can be dangerous to both, the mother and the baby. According to
Paulson (2011), “The older you are when you get pregnant, the more likely you
are to have a chronic disease, such as high blood pressure or diabetes that may be undiagnosed and can affect your pregnancy”. Paulson (2011)
also mentioned that old women have higher risk of developing certain complications
during pregnancy such as gestational diabetes, preeclampsia, placental abruption and placenta previa. Therefore, the old men
search for younger women which are better choice in order to get children.
2.2 Young women’s great
physical condition and good behaviours
Secondly, young women’s physical and
behaviours is one of the reasons why old men preferred to marry young women.
From physical aspect, younger women are more beautiful and stronger. A lot of
older women let themselves lose their zest for life, become boring and serious,
and lose their youthfulness and radiance. According to Wade (n.d.), “what men
desire more than anything in women is youth. That’s just the way that it is”.
Young women are more youthful than the old one. Young women tend to be sexier,
gorgeous and hotter. Most of old women are out of shape unlike young women
which is more vogues.
From behaviour aspect, according to
Robert (n.d.), the reasons many older men are more attracted to young women
than old women are because of the young woman’s girlishness and playfulness.
The older a man gets, the more fascinating this particular quality may become
to him. Old men choose to marry women ten or fifteen years younger than
themselves instead of women who close to their own age because older women lack
these kinds of qualities.
An element of girlish in a woman’s nature can
really captivate men. Girlish usually means that there will be some gentleness,
purity, kindness and sweetness about a ladies character. When a woman has this
particular attribute, it makes her appear as playful, youthful, light-hearted
and innocent. Nearly all older men will admire and desire these sorts of girly
attributes.
2.3 Young women can
give better sexual satisfaction to old men
Another reason why old men preferred to
marry young women is young women can give better sexual satisfaction to old
men. According to Zussman (n.d., as cited in “Ghairah Seks Di Usia Emas”,
2007), there are different level of sexuality between men and women. For old
men, their passion towards sex has never off even their age are increasing.
Furthermore, they think 40 years old and above of men age is the time to become
young back. It is not weird if among
them are ready to be married again even their age are reaching hundred years
old. Differently to the old women, other than worrying about their
premenopausal syndrome, their passionate of sex decrease as their age reaching
fifty years old. It is because of low production of oestrogens together at once
‘kill’ their desire towards sex. At this age, old women tend to be alone and
pay attention to their children.
Old men have a lot of sexual experienced
and their passion towards sex has never off. The old men want their sex life
get more adventure with his new younger wife because old women easily get tired
during sex. This is because of age factor. The older the women, the easier they
get tired during sex. B. Berkowitz and S. Berkowitz (2010) explained that some
women stating to have a painful intercourse with their husband. For this
reason, the women always reject their husband when their husband wants to do
sex. Nicholson (1984) states “sex is a more pleasurable activity for men than
for women. Whenever the couple decide to have intercourse, it is always the man
who is the major beneficiary and the woman who is putting herself out to
provide him with enjoyment” (p.146). So, if their wife cannot give the
satisfaction of sex, they will find other women. Therefore, young women are
better choice because they can perform better in sex and can give more satisfaction
to old men compared to old women.
3.0 The effects of old men

3.1 Old men can live longer
The first effect of old men marrying young women is older men can live
longer. Germany’s Max Plank Institute (2009, as cited in Cheah, 2012) found
that men who marry younger women can live longer. The researcher also found
that a man’s chances of dying early are cut by a fifth if their bride is
between 15 to 17 years younger than them. The risk of premature death is
reduced by 11 per cent if they marry a woman seven to nine years younger. Wives
with husbands older or younger by between seven and nine years increase their
chances of dying early by 20 per cent. This rises to 30 per cent if the age
difference is close to 15 and 17 years.
Germany’s Max Plank Institute (2009, as cited in Cheah, 2012) also used
to think that marrying a younger women increases life expectancy because of a
phenomenon called health selection. They say the figures for men may be the
result of natural selection that only the healthiest older men are able to
attract younger mates. This means that men who are healthier and more vital for
their age are better able to attract younger women to marry them and would have
had a greater life expectancy. It is possible that when a man has a younger
wife, he gets a mental boost that keeps him happy and healthy. Furthermore, younger
people have active life routine that can effect to the older men to join their
wife activities. For examples are going to shopping and jogging which are the
part of exercises that can lead the old men to have better health condition.
This can reduce the risk for the old men to get chronic illness like heart
attack.
Drefahl (n.d., as cited in Wardrop, 2009) states "another theory is
that the younger women will take care for a man better and therefore he will
live longer". Men with a younger wife also benefits from having someone who
can take care of him when he is ill and to help nurse him back to health. This
is because younger women have better health condition than old women and
younger women have more energy to take care her family and husband. Therefore,
marrying young women can lengthen the life time of old men.
3.2 Old
men will feel proud and confident marrying younger women
The second effect is old men will feel
proud and confident when they married to young women. According to “Top Three

having younger women in their arms. They like to be envied by their friends.
Having young women in their arms when they attend social function is like an
ego boost that they can still pull the trigger and so on. Old men like the
feelings of being envied by other men when they show up in a party with their
beautiful young wives. They feel lucky having young, faithful wives, not just
for an accessory but ego boost. For older men, recognition is very important.
Moreover, Evette (2009) argued that when
old men married young women, they will feel like they become youthful again,
even their age is 50 years old. They tend to find young women just like when
they younger. According to Bainbridge (2012), “if men get divorce in middle age
they do tend to hook up with someone who is younger than their original
partner”. This means that old men are choosing young women rather than old one
to be their wives. Thus, having a young wife makes them feel proud and
confident because their friends will praise them as a hero.
3.3 Old men have the potential to be left by the young women
The third effect is the old men have potential to be left by the younger
women. There
are differences in the energy levels. According to Evette (2009), “if old men
do not keep up with the young women, she might lose interest in him and look
for other men. Youngwomen who tolerate old menfor reasons other than love are
more interested in their money, assets, power and
security. If an old man loses his
fortune or health, the young women will leave his side quickly”.
Nowadays, younger women might stay
by old men side because of fortune is to fulfil their desire on having all
types of branded thing or limited edition. Other than that, younger women will
use money that given by the old men to experience her enjoyable social life.
For example, having a party with her close friend, go for clubbing, going for
overseas trip and shopping. Younger women may also spend the old men money to
help her family financial if she is from poor family. So, if the old men facing
problem with financial, younger women will not think twice to leave him.
Bad health condition also is a
factor of why the old men might be left by the younger women. At the young age,
younger women still want to enjoy their social life and do not want to carry
big responsibility. They also do not want to spend their life just to take care
of the old men. If the old men health condition getting worse like paralyzed,
coma, and stroke, younger woman might stay by the old men side but will give up
after sometime.
However, not all young women just
think about money or all that. They maybe stay by his side because of love. The
old men maybe know how to lure the younger women with his attitude such as
caring and romantic. Thus, the old men have to take the risk if they choose to
marry young women.
4.0 Conclusion
In a nutshell, young women can produce
more children, young women’s great physical condition and good behaviours and
young women can give better sexual satisfaction to old men are the reasons why
old men preferred to marry young women. The effects of marrying young women are
old men can live longer, old men will feel proud and confident and old men have
potential to be left by the younger women. The phenomenon of old men marrying
young women is not something new because this kind of marriage had been happened
from time to time since ancient time. It is depends on the person to be married
with whom they choose but they need to consider the pros and cons. Nevertheless,
most of the marriages are based on love. They do not get married because of
physical appearance only. They only focus on the chemistry between them to
ensure their happiness. So, the marriage between old men and young women is not
a big issue.
